Managing the Counsellor Burnout
Individuals working in caring professions tend to suffer from emotional drain emanating from sustained personal interaction with clients. Left unattended, this condition results in burnout, a natural “wear and tear” of a worker, often manifesting in reduced capacity to empathize with the suffering of clients.
Dr. Gachutha explores the various causes of burnout and proven approaches of dealing with it, their strengths and weaknesses. Then she introduces the reader to her approach, the Gachutha Holistic Burnout Supervision Model, and how it can be used to help the counsellor regain diminishing personal resources and wellness. This book, based on her PhD thesis, is sure to prove a great contribution to the field of counselling by helping psychotherapists become healthier and, as a result, more effective in their work.
Catherine holds a doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology with University of South Africa (UNISA). She is the CEO of Maranatha College of Counselling. She is the chairperson of Kenya Counselling Association (KCA). She has a burden for marriages and family life in general and has been conducting life-changing programs in radio and TV stations, newspapers and leading magazines.
